Happy New Year everyone today I am starting with Tina Modotti (August 16 (or 17) 1896 – January 5, 1942) was an Italian photographer , model , actress , and revolutionary political activist for the Komintern . As I learned the art of Black and white photography I was drawn to her work . I believe that Modotti had the artist's eye of seeing her subject and photographing it such a beautiful and creative manner. It is supposed that Modotti was introduced to photography as a young girl in Italy, where her uncle, Pietro Modotti, maintained a photography studio. While in Los Angeles, she met the photographer Edward Weston and his creative partner Margrethe Mather . It was through her relationship with Edward Weston that Modotti developed as an important fine art photographer and documentarian. By 1921, Modotti was Weston's lover. [2] Ricardo Gómez Robelo became the head of Mexico 's Ministry of Education's Fine Arts Department, and persuaded Robo to come to

Eva Hesse (January 11, 1936 – May 29, 1970), was a Jewish German-born American sculptor, known for her pioneering work in materials such as latex , fiberglass , and plastics . She is one of the artists who ushered in the postminimal art movement in the 1960s When Hesse was two years old in December 1938, her parents, hoping to flee from Nazi Germany , sent Hesse and her older sister, Helen Hesse Charash, to the Netherlands via Kindertransport . [3] After almost six months of separation, the reunited family moved to England and then, in 1939, emigrated to New York City, [4] where they settled into Manhattan 's Washington Heights . [5] [6] In 1944, Hesse's parents separated; her father remarried in 1945 and her mother committed suicide in 1946. [6] In 1962, she met and married sculptor Tom Doyle; they divorced in 1966. [7] In October 1969, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor , and she died on Friday, May 29, 1970. Her death, after three operations within a year,

Before I start I wish everyone a happy and wonderful Christmas and a splendid New Year. Now today's artist is female as you know I like to represent female artist. Her name is Kathe Kollwitz (1867 – 1945) A German painter, print maker and sculptor, Kathe Kollwitz’ work focussed on the human condition, in particular the plight of the less fortunate; victims of poverty, hunger and ultimately, war. Her initial work was conceived in a Naturalistic style through the media of drawing, etching, lithography and the woodcut but her output gradually became more graphic and Expressionistic to more accurately reflect her subject matter. Kathe Kollwitz is recognised as one of the most important German artists of the 20 th century, one who created timeless art works against a backdrop of personal sorrow and hardship. Though Kollwitz studied both painting and printmaking, she turned exclusively to the print in the early 1890s. Influenced by fellow German artist Max Klinger, she saw t

Brennan was born in Ballarat in 1960. She went on to complete a Fine Arts degree, in painting, at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1982 and a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in philosophy, at the University of Melbourne in 1992. [1] Best known for her high-keyed abstractions, Brennan displays a mastery of colour and spontaneity in her work that offers the viewer a range of ideas and emotions that seek a reaction. She continues to add to her repertoire of painting styles, including abstracts, text paintings, portraits, interiors and landscapes, and more recently has expanded her practice to include ceramics and sculptural installations. These varied modes of art-making allow Brennan to encounter philosophical and personal subject matter. In 2006 the Monash University Museum of Art held a major survey exhibition of her work, titled Angela Brennan: every morning I wake up on the wrong side of capitalism . Today I thought I would get to know Pro Hart a little better than the carpet adds. Kevin Charles "Pro" Hart , MBE (30 May 1928 – 28 March 2006), was an Australian artist, born in Broken Hill, New South Wales , who was considered the father of the Australian Outback painting movement and his works are widely admired for capturing the true spirit of the outback. He grew up on his family's sheep farm in Menindee, New South Wales and was nicknamed "Professor" (hence "Pro") during his younger days, when he was known as an inventor. He collected vintage cars and motor cycles, and invented many kinds of engines and machines. He enjoyed pistol shooting, reading the Bible, and organ music. [7] He was the proud owner of a Rodgers electric pipe organ, which was said to be the largest of its kind in Australia. [8] This was installed in his gallery, a step which considerably enhanced its value as a Broken Hill tourist attraction. He was made a

This artist Is what I call a very forward thinking and a courageous woman. Her fabric prints were bold and beautiful. I would have worn her stuff thats for sure. My painting are usually bold and colorful as well and maybe thats why I love her works. Sarah Ilinichna Stern was probably born on 14 November 1885 in Hradyzk , then Ukraine was part of the Russian Empire , today in Poltava Oblast in Ukraine . Henri, a successful and affluent Jewish lawyer, and his wife Anna wanted to adopt her but her mother would not allow it. Finally in 1890 she was adopted by the Terks. [3] She assumed the name Sonia Terk and received a privileged upbringing with the Terks. They spent their summers in Finland and traveled widely in Europe introducing Sonia to art museums and galleries. When she was 16 she attended a

Today's Artist is Robert Dickerson he was a self-taught artist who refused to go to art school. His art has been described as angular and high contrast chiaroscuro and executed in a range of materials including paint, pastels, charcoals and other graphic media. The inspiration for his art came from everyday life and he drew on the themes of loneliness, vulnerability and isolation. Lone characters with long noses and whimsical, often averted eyes featured heavily of his work. He said it is "the same style I've always used", and did not intend to change it.Robert Dickerson was born in 1924 and grew up in Sydney during the 1930s T he depression . By the time he was 14 he was working in a factory while he trained as a boxer. He toured for four years with the J immy Sharman's boxing troupe. "Boxing was purely about money. I was earning 16 shillings (A$1.60) working a 44-hour week and could make two to five pounds (A$4 to A$10) if I won a fight. Minutes in

Hi hope you are having a good Sunday and resting up. Today's artist another Australian is Albert Tucker born in 1914 Melbourne dies in 1999. In 1947 he travelled to Japan where he saw the devastation of Hiroshima - it was an experience that would have a profound effect on his work. Tucker spent 13 years in Europe and his international career finally took off when the Guggenheim Museum purchased some of his work and the Museum of Modern Art in New York mounted an exhibition. During the 1960s he began to enjoy popularity at home. All major Australian galleries acquired his work and a 1990 retrospective drew over 90,000 visitors. He was interviewed for Film Australia's Australian Biography series in 1994. http://www.australianbiography.gov.au/subjects/tucker/ http://www.australianbiography.gov.au/subjects/tucker/interview1.html Tucker associated with John and Sunday Reed, who saw connections between Tucker's work and other artists, angry at the social situation. Every day but not always because life gets in the way. I search for an artist, mostly female as the men still out way the women. The reason for this, is one I learn and get to know another female artist and two so do you. Today I have picked Ghada Amer is an Egyptian painter, sculptor, and installation artist. whose work addresses the issues of femininity, sexuality and gender roles . Ghada Amer was born in Cairo, Egypt in the early 60s. While she was still a teenager, in the mid-70s, her parents, traditional Muslim Egyptians, decided to relocate to France . Young Ghada began her artistic training ten years later in Nice, France. As a student in the BFA and MFA programs of Villa Arson, Amer was excluded from painting classes, because they were reserved for male students only . However, she didn't give up, as she was a provocative and innovative young woman Amer’s work is strongly feminist because it subverts the masculine genre of painting. he narratives s
